Bobcat Stadium (formerly Reno H. Sales Stadium) opened in 1973 on the south side of the MSU campus at 1 Bobcat Circle. A 1998 renovation added new west-side concessions, a north end-zone complex and a grandstand with 38 sky suites; FieldTurf arrived in 2008, and the Sonny Holland End Zone on the south end added 5,200 seats.

The stadium sits at about 4,940 ft, and on big days standing-room areas push crowds well past its seating—22,277 fans packed in for the December 2025 FCS semifinal against Montana.

The rivalry

Cat-Griz: the Brawl of the Wild

Montana State vs. the University of Montana Grizzlies is one of the oldest rivalries in college football. The teams first met in 1897, and the game has been billed as the “Brawl of the Wild” since 1997.

Since 1993 Cat-Griz has been the final regular-season game for both teams, often deciding the Big Sky Conference title. The winner takes home the Great Divide Trophy, created in 2001 and weighing about 306 lb. ESPN's College GameDay broadcast from the MSU campus before the 2022 game in Bozeman, and in December 2025 the rivals met in the playoffs for the first time: Montana State won the FCS semifinal 48–23 at Bobcat Stadium.

2026: the next meeting is Saturday, Nov 21 in Bozeman, with a noon kickoff. Expect the whole valley to book up—reserve as early as you can.
